Toomey (1993) argues that there is little evidence that sending books home and encouraging parental involvement will, of itself, lead to reading improvement. Poetry is one of my favorite fluency practices, and the students always feel the same way! You and your child could write a list of things that they can do. Dorling Kindersley Readers, which debuted as Eyewitness Readers in spring 1998, have been lauded by booksellers and educators for their innovative look. Your child clicks on the color square he/she thinks matches the word. Similarly, the test might ask the student to find a rhyme for each regular word from a set (e.g. find the word that rhymes with CHOIR - CHAIR, CHORE, WIRE).
